Future Problem Solvers: Community Problem Solving (FPS CmPs)

When running a bake sale for Barnstable High School's National Green Schools Society chapter, I ran into my former Gateway teacher from Barnstable Intermediate School. Mrs. Contrino is not only an amazing woman, but she manages several of the local Destination Imagination (DI) and Future Problem Solvers (FPS) teams, in addition to managing her own teaching responsibilities and her family. After explaining what I had been up to since I saw her last, mainly this project, she urged me to submit it to the FPS CmPs challenge. Before this venture I had no prior involvement with FPS, nor was my project conceived around the basis of submitting it for the competition. Mrs. Contrino was hopeful that by submitting my work that had been completed to date, I would be considered for the State Bowl 2018. If all goes well, there is a strong chance I may be invited to the International Conference where students who have aimed to mitigate or resolve a variety of problems within their community, come together to present their projects. Yesterday on March 2nd, 2018, I submitted materials to support the creation of the food waste reduction program at BHS, as well as other green initiatives within the school. In future posts I will share the materials I created and submitted, but below is a brief Youtube that discusses parts of the project. Camryn Roberts-Capak and I are hoping to create a channel containing content relating to this project and the long journey that got us here along with other videos relating to the environment and DIY green projects!
